El pasado diciembre, Andrea Finlay, la madre de Taylor Swift, se hizo unos chequeos médicos ya que su hija se lo pidió como parte de un regalo de Navidad para poder quedarse más tranquila. En estas pruebas se le fue diagnosticado un cáncer, no se han dado más detalles. Ha sido la propia Andrea quien pidió a su hija que publicase esta noticia para que no surgiese ningún rumor si no se la ve en la gira de conciertos que Taylor empieza el 20 de mayo en Luisiana (Estados Unidos).
El post que Taylor publicó esta mañana dice lo siguiente:

Just so you know…

Hey guys,
I’m writing to you with an update I wish I wasn’t giving you, but it’s important and I’m used to sharing important events in my life with you. Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now.
For Christmas this year, I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor to get screened for any health issues, just to ease some worries of mine. She agreed, and went in to get checked. There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine, but she did it just to get me and my brother off her case about it.
The results came in, and I’m saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. I’d like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know.
She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She’s got an important battle to fight.

Hola chicos, os estoy escribiendo con una noticia que desearía no tener que daros, pero es importante y yo suelo compartir las cosas importantes de mi vida con vosotros. Normalmente cuando me suceden cosas las proceso y escribo música sobre como me hacen sentir y vosotros las escucháis mucho después. Esto es algo que mi familia y yo creemos que debéis saber ya.
Este año, en Navidad le pedí a mi madre como uno de mis regalos que fuese al médico para hacerse un examen sobre unos problemas de salud para aliviar mis preocupaciones. Ella estuvo de acuerdo y fue. No había banderas rojas y ella se sentía perfectamente bien, pero lo hizo por mi hermano y por mí.
Los resultados llegaron y estoy muy triste por deciros que mi madre fue diagnosticada con cáncer. Yo quería guardar los detalles de su condición y su tratamiento en privado pero ella quiso que lo supiéseis.
Ella quería que lo supiéseis porque vuestros padres quizás estén tan ocupados con todo que dejen de ir al médico y quizás si les recordáis ir a hacerse un examen médico para el cáncer, un diagnóstico precoz podría facilitar mucho la batalla... O tener tranquilidad sabiendo que están sanos y no hay nada de lo que preocuparse.Ella quería haceros saber por qué probablemente no estará en muchos de mis conciertos en esta gira. Ella tiene una importante batalla que luchar.
